History: Kusaka was a native of North Rukon-district prior to attending the Spiritual Arts Academy. He served in the same class as Hitsugaya; viewing the "young genius" both as a person to look up to and as someone to aspire to be better than. He was both rival and friend to Hitsugaya Toushirou during their days as students. Swearing his life in fealty to the Soul Society and vowing to become a Soul Reaper/Shinigami he had all his dreams shattered just before they were to graduate.

Once upon a time he was a fiercely loyal person, until certain events forced a great betrayal, both from and against him. He has since grown into a somewhat jaded man.

He's the sort of person who wants to be the best. Fiercely confident, even arrogant, but not quite to the point where he can't admit he's been bested..once it's painfully obvious. As much dedication as he feels toward those he decides to respect and bestow friendship on, he'll go to great lengths to achieve whatever it is he wants - even cross his friends, if he has to.

Initially thrilled to discover both he and Hitsugaya had managed to acquire the same power---until the Central 46 declared there could only be one wielder of Hyourinmaru: Devastating them both. Forcing the two to duel and decide who the user would be... Only to declare Hitsugaya the true owner before the battle had, truly, been won or lost. Sentencing Kusaka to swift and brutal death.

Sent to Hueco Mundo and resuscitated there under unclear means by power of the King's Seal; he came back -years later- with a bitter vengeance. Set on taking revenge against Seireitei. He desired for Hitsugaya to join him, but in the end, it was none other than his favorite "genius" to kill him once again after his violent plans had been foiled.

He vowed - always to return - never to die.

And so, it was his destiny, it would seem...
Seeking to finally master Hyourinmaru and achieve his Bankai at last, he found his way to Dusk Village, not knowing he might cross fated path with Toushirou once again.
Pets: A little two-sided floating pixie called "YinYan" spawned by his loneliness and a wish not to endure alone somewhere between his second death and arriving to Dusk Village.
(mirroring a close semblance of his two sidekicks from the time after his "first death" - one half blue - the other red)
The company it gave helped him maintain half of his sanity.
